Tokyo Flâneur Vol. 2: The Moments I Stood Still
The Moments I Stood Still is part of the anniversary exhibition—Tokyo Flaneur Vol. 2 at Jinny Street Gallery.
Six artists share their connection with Tokyo on our first anniversary. Tokyo Flâneur Vol. 2 is another take on the inaugural exhibition of Jinny Street Gallery focusing on walking, wandering, exploring, and sharing stories about Tokyo. Walk with us to explore the multimedia art of Johan Brooks, Veronika Ikonnikova, Task Innami, Mateusz Urbanowicz, Lorenzo Menghi, and Toto Tvalavadze.
Six artists, each presenting up to seven artworks, all of them to tell one personal meandering story of theirs from Tokyo.
Tokyo Flâneur: Through the Eyes of a Stroller
Sidewalks are suitable for walkers. They are very crowded places. The footprints quickly vanish without leaving any trace. The flaneur traces their paths elsewhere. They wander between the narrow streets and the city's buildings; immersed in tranquility, he walks in silence. Zig-zagging through the people, searching for a glimpse of light in urban chaos. Then, stepping off the sidewalk, looking for a story to tell.
Seven artists, each presenting six photographic artworks, all of them to tell one personal meandering story of theirs from Tokyo.
Wirescapes: Connected With the Urban Fabric
In colaboration with ByLUDO (Ludovica Cirillo)
Wirescapes is a mixed-media exhibition that uses the space as a canvas to visualize the complexity of hyper-connected city life. The installation combines urban photographs and recycled technological materials, showcasing creative ways of mingling and mixing different disciplines.
THE LINE
“THE LINE” wants to be a melting point between music and art, a connection for the community, to foster the tribe and enhance the connections within it.
By establishing a recurring appointment (every 2 weeks), which every time has a different artist and DJ in the spotlight, the attendee has the opportunity to discover the variety of creative humans in Tokyo and join this diverse tribe.
The venue is split by ‘the line,’ a physical border that the attendee needs to trespass to enjoy the artwork; an extra effort that pushes curiosity towards the artwork exhibited while enjoying a curated music selection.
Walk With Me
"Walk With Me" is an exhibition of 59 photographs from 2019 and 2020 displayed in 42 street lamps dotted around the Jingumae 2-chome.
It is based on the long-term project Out of Memory — a visual diary documenting Toto's walks and life in a series of photographs.
Photos are rotated every two weeks around the streetlamps.
Visit the microsite with an interactive map of all 42 streetlamps. Then, have a nice walk in the Jibguimae 2-chome neighborhood.
PERSPECTIVES
While our lives may be constantly intersecting and overlapping in what we assume to be a singular reality, we are never truly able to experience each other’s unique perspectives. Each of us carries with us our own history and forms of understanding, able only to see some order that we ourselves imagine in the world. However, in photographs we become able to freeze and reflect on single moments that have been chosen and extracted from infinite possibilities, gaining insight into our own perspectives through the consideration of others’.
In PERSPECTIVES, eight artists from overseas as well as Japan come together to showcase unique moments they’ve captured in black in white while living and working in the Tokyo area.
